Dr. Zalmai Rasoul Visits Norway and Finland

Oslo, January 29th, 2009
Dr. Zalmai Rasoul, National Security Advisor of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan arrived in Oslo, Norway on an official visit today.
During the visit, he will meet with high-ranking Norwegian authorities including Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre, and Minister of Defense Anne-Grete Strøm-Erichsen. He will also hold talks with Chief of Defense General Sverre Diesen, and Mr Jan Petersen, Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Norwegian Parliament.
Dr Rasoul will travel to Stavanger on Saturday, January 31st to visit the Norwegian National Joint Head Quarter, and to meet with Major General Roar Sundeth.
On February 2nd, Dr Rasoul will travel to Finland, Helsinki to meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Stubb, Minister of Defense Jyri Hakamies, and Mr Juha Korkeaoja, Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Finnish Parliament among others.
Accompanied by Brigadier General Markku Nikkila, Director of the Unit for National Defense Policy in the Ministry of Defense, Dr Rasoul will visit the Finnish Defense Forces International Center. Dr Rasoul will receive an overview on Finnish Crisis Management with special focus on the training of peacekeepers to be deployed to Afghanistan.
Dr Zalmai Rasoul will address a seminar titled "The Challenge of Bringing Peace in Afghanistan and the Role of NATO," organized by the Atlantic Council of Finland at the end of his visit on February 5th.
