H.E. Bourhanuddin Rabbani attends Oslo Forum 2011

On 21 June, H.E. Professor Bourhanuddin Rabbani, the Chairman of the High Peace Council, H.E. Mr. Masoom Stanekzai, Minister Adviser on Home Security to the President of Afghanistan and Secretary General for the High Peace Council, and Ms. Fatima Gailani, President of Afghan Red Crescent Society, arrived in Oslo to attend the 9th Oslo Forum.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue co-hosted the Oslo forum 2011, from 21 to 23 June in Oslo.

This year's forum was the ninth of its kind, and represented a unique opportunity for senior third-party conflict mediators and other key peace process actors to share their experiences, identify challenges and reflect on their own and other's ideas.
 
On 23 June, at the third session of the Oslo Forum 2011, Professor Bourhanuddin Rabani, the Chairman of the High Peace Council in Afghanistan, spoke on the topic of “Talking with the Taliban”. He elaborated on the realistic, short-term goals of peace talks with Taliban and the implications of a political agreement with the Taliban for the Afghan population in terms of education and human rights.
 
In addition to H.E. Professor Bourhanuddin Rabbani, H.E. Mr. Masoom Stanekzai and Ms. Fatima Gailani, Mr. Wakil Ahmad Mutawakil and Mr. Abdul Salam Zaeef also attended Oslo Forum 2011.
 
The Embassy of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Oslo held a reception, in which Ambassador Manizha Bakhtari welcomed H.E. Professor Bourhanuddin Rabbani, the Chairman of the High Peace Council and the delegation to Norway.



Those in attendance joined together to celebrate and commence H.E. Professor Bourhanuddin Rabbani’s accomplishments in his efforts to strengthen Afghanistan’s peace process. H.E. Professor Bourhanuddin Rabbani, delivered a speech to the members of the Afghan community and elaborated on the process of peace talks with the Taliban and explained the success and progress of the High Peace Council.
