H.E. President Hamid Karzai visits Iran

On Friday 24th June 2011, H.E. President Hamid Karzai left Afghanistan for Iran to attend an international conference on counter-terrorism and a tripartite session of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran in Tehran.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Lebanese President Michel Sleiman, Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Tajik President Emom Ali Rahmon, and Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir all attended the conference.

During his visits, H.E. President Hamid Karzai, took part in a trilateral meeting involving the presidents of Pakistan and Iran. In the meeting, the ongoing fight against terrorism was discussed, as well as counter- narcotics cooperation and trade ties among the three countries.

H.E. President Hamid Karzai delivered a speech at the counter-terrorism conference on Saturday and highlighted the role of cooperation between neighboring countries in dealing with the menace in the region.

H.E. President Hamid Karzai was accompanied by Foreign Minister Dr. Zalmay Rassoul, National Security Advisor, Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta and Presidential Spokesman, Waheed Omar and other high ranking officials from Afghanistan.
