Nawruz Festival held in Oslo
Three Embassies of the Nawruz region in Norway, namely: Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Iraq, together held “Nawruz Festival” on 31 March 2014, in Oslo.
The festival, which has been celebrated for over thousands of years by many groups of people in the Middle East, Central and South Asian regions, is to mark the first day of spring and the official beginning of the New Year.
The Nawruz festival celebrated in Oslo, entailed handicraft exhibition, musical performances from Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq and variety of national cuisines from the three countries.
The event started with the national anthems of Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq and Norway and followed by the welcome remarks from the host Ambassadors.
Ambassador Manizah Bakhtari, delivered the opening remarks, during in her speech, she briefly explained the meaning of Nawruz and the traditions regarding this celebration. Ambassador Bakhtari also expressed her appreciation to the guests for joining the event and hoped that this tradition of celebrating “Nawruz” will continue.
The event was attended by former Norwegian Prime Minister, Mr. Kjell Magne Bondevik, representatives of Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Norwegian expert, media, members of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Norway.
At the end, the guests were served with a buffet table, where guests were able to enjoy the Afghan, Iranian and Iraq’s national cuisine with an outstanding exhibition of handicraft from Afghanistan and Iran.
