H.E. Professor Nematullah Shahrani

Professor Nematullah Shahrani was born in Badakhshan. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Islamic Studies from Kabul University in 1964, and subsequently got a position in the teaching committee at the university. In 1967, he went to Egypt and earned his Master's Degree from Al-Azhar University. In 1970 he returned to Kabul University as a lecturer and Chief Editor of Sharayat Magazine. In 1976 he went to the U.S. and studied law at George Washington University.




After the emergency Loya Jirga, Professor Shahrani was appointed one of the four vice-presidents of the Afghan Transitional Administration, and was also the Director of the Drafting Commission of the Constitution.

He has written more than 30 books, and several hundred academic articles. He belongs to an academic family that is known in Afghanistan as the family Currently, several of his family members are teaching at academic institutions in the United States (such as Indiana University Bloomington) and the United Kingdom.
