DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

Sweden has since 2003 had diplomatic presence in Afghanistan, first with a regional office in Kabul and through its embassy in Islamabad in the neighbouring country Pakistan, and since December 2007 through the establishment of a Swedish embassy in Kabul.

The Embassy was inaugurated on 30 October, 2008, by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Carl Bildt, and the first Swedish Ambassador to Afghanistan was His Excellency Svante Kilander. Since May 2010 H.E. Torbjörn Pettersson has been ambassador.
