On the 18 and 19 June the annual global retreat of Oslo Forum took place in Oslo. A distinguished group of Afghan officials was invited to participate in the event; the delegation from Afghanistan included Deputy Foreign Minister H.E Jawed Ludin, Member of Parliament Ms. Fawzia Koofi, Member of Parliament Ms. Shinkai Zahine Karokhail, Head of Afghanistan Red Crescent Ms. Fatima Gailani and Director of the Center for Conflict and Peace Studies Mr. Hekmat Karzai. Afghan-Norwegian Friendship Day at Vinderen Primary School in Oslo

The 5th of May is the annual Afghan-Norwegian Friendship Day at Vinderen primary school in Olso. On this day the children prepare markets with food and self-made things to raise money for their friendship shcool in Afghanistan.

Kabul New City Announcement: Parcels 1 and 2 Closing Dates Changed

Due to overwhelming request from potential developers, the closing dates for the registration of Expression of Interest (EOI) of Parcels 1 and 2, Phase One of Kabul New City have been extended from Wednesday 13th April 2011 to Saturday 30th April 2011.

I strongly condemn the terrorist attack on 28th January 2011, at 'Finest' supermarket in Wazir Akbar Khan, Kabul. I am extremely saddened to know that the attack has resulted in the death of at least eight civilians, including, Ms. Hamida Barmaki and her family.

NATO Summit concluded with the agreement of Afghanistan-NATO on Security Transition by 2014


The NATO summit which was on Afghanistan announced that the Afghan-led security transition process will commence from the beginning of the next year and will be fully completed by the 2014 concluded in Lisbon Capital of Portugal. In conclusion of this summit, joint declaration of enduring partnership and cooperation between Afghanistan and NATO signed by H.E. President Hamid Karzai and Anders Fogh Rasmussen Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) that based on the principals of this declaration, NATO Organization pledged to commence consultation and continue cooperation to provide training and equipping the Afghanistan National Army, and will cooperate closely with the Government of Afghanistan in all sectors, accordingly.

The Embassy of Afghanistan in Oslo celebrated with the Afghan community in Norway Afghanistan’s 91 Independence Day on the evening of September 10th, 2010 in Oslo. More than 150 guests—including Norwegian State Secretary Espen Barth Eide as guest of honor, diplomatic corps, media, and friends and supporters of Afghanistan—attended the glamorous Independence Day reception at the residence of Afghanistan Embassy in Oslo.

Norwegian Foreign Minister visits Afghanistan

The Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre is visiting the Norwegian troops in Afghanistan. He will also be attending the Kabul Conference on July 20th 2010. The Minister stresses the importance of the Kabul Conference and states that it is important because it will be yet another step towards the Afghans fully gaining ownership and taking charge of their own security and development.

Exit Afghanistan?

On Tuesday June 15th the Socialist Left Party (SV) arranged a seminar at the Norwegian Storting with the theme “Exit Afghanistan?”. The seminar had many prominent speakers, including Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and former UN Special Representative Kai Eide. The Afghan Ambassador to the Nordic countries, Manizah Bakhtari, spoke on Fighting for the Peace.

Public debate on NATO’s future from Baltic prospective


During the
Spring Session of the NATO’s Parliamentary Assembly
from 28th of May to 1st of June 2010, in Riga, the capital of Latvia,
the Latvian Transatlantic organisation held a general debate on 1st of June.

H.E. Abdul Rahim Wardak Minister of Defence of Afghanistan and Afghan Ambassador to Nordic countries Manizah Bakhtari, were representing Afghanistan. Defence ministers of Baltic countries were among the panellists.

President Karzai Meets US Leaders of Congress on 12 of May 2010

President Hamid Karzai met Wednesday with the leaders of both Houses of the US Congress in Washington.

At a meeting with the Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnel and Majority Leader Harry Reid, several issues of mutual interest including expanding bilateral strategic relations were discussed.

 The President later met with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and leader of the Republicans, Johan Boehner. Speaker Pelosi welcomed President Karzai to Congress and said she was pleased to see the President again in Washington.

New U.S. Strategy for Afghanistan
Afghanistan Welcomes the New U.S. Strategy
Barack Obama President of the United States of America announced on Tuesday evening in his speech to cadets at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., that United States of America will send a further 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan, in addition to significantly increasing its civilian efforts. This announcement by President Obama was widely welcomed inside and outside the Afghanistan.

Raise money for Afghan skate school
Since its founding in 2007, Afghanistan’s first skateboarding school, Skateistan, has played an important role in giving underprivileged kids in Kabul a place to play and get an education. Now Nordic skateboarders and other volunteers raise money to build a skate park in Kabul.

18 boys from Faryab Province got an experience of a lifetime when the Norwegian Defence Minister invited them to the international youth football tournament Norway Cup. Norway Cup is one of the largest football tournaments in the world, gathering over 30 000 players from 45 countries.

The Swedish Government recently announced its new long-term strategy for development assistance to Afghanistan. The strategy covers the period to 2013 and entails gradually increasing aid to Afghanistan to 500 million Swedish Kronor, about 47 million Euros.

Norwegian government supports Afghan elections with 70 million NOK
