H.E. Mrs. Shukria Barakzai received a courtesy visit from newly appointed Ambassador of Georgia to Norway, H.E. Ms. Maia Kipshidze. The discussion was open and friendly, Ambassador Barakzai wished the best to Ambassador Kipshidze in her duties.
H.E. Ms. Maia Kipshidze graduated from Tbilisi State University, Department of West European Languages and Literature, Faculty of English Language and Literature, and holds MA in Modern British Studies from the Warwick University, UK, 1996. She began the career as-as an interpreter and teacher of English delivering lectures on British Studies and English History at Tbilisi State University and other higher education institutions and interpreted for many foreign TV companies. She worked as Cultural Attaché at the British Embassy (2012), Tbilisi, Director of Programmes at the British Council (2006-2011), Tbilisi, for five years being responsible for projects such as Good Governance and Democracy, Art, English Language Teaching, Vocational Education and Training, Social Enterprise, the Old Tbilisi Cultural Heritage and Judiciary reform. For ten years before that, worked as Press and Public Affairs Officer at the British Embassy in Tbilisi (1996-2006).
At various points in her career, she took a leading role in promoting NATO-Georgia Public Diplomacy projects; celebrations in Georgia of The Queen’s Golden (2002) and Diamond Jubilees (2012) and the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics; and the 20th anniversary of British Georgian diplomatic relations; in successful visit of HRH Prince Edward to Georgia in November 2010; in hosting the film star Alan Rickman (2007), writer Simon Sebag Montefiori and film director Michael Leigh (2009), while at the British Council.
