Press Statement attributable to H.E. Ambassador Jawed Ludin
Oslo, December 12th, 2007
On behalf of President Hamid Karzai and the people of Afghanistan, I express my deepest condolences to the people of Norway for the loss of one Norwegian soldier in Afghanistan yesterday. The young soldier, who was part of the Norwegian Provincial Reconstruction Team in Meymaneh in the north of Afghanistan, was killed yesterday by a road bomb 8 km outside the Norwegian base. I also pray for the quick and full recovery of his fellow soldier, who was wounded in yesterday's incident.
The people of Afghanistan honour the memory of the brave soldier who laid down his life for the cause of peace in our country. We are also grateful to the people of Norway for your steadfast support to Afghanistan as we rebuild our country into a stable and democratic nation.
The sacrifice offered by the Norwegian soldier exemplifies the deep commitment of the Norwegian people to help a country in need and build a safer world. I am confident that this sacrifice of life would further strengthen the resolve of the Norwegian people to continue to help Afghanistan.
