On behalf of President Hamid Karzai and the people of Afghanistan, I express my deepest condolences to the people of Denmark for the loss of two Danish soldiers in Afghanistan yesterday. The two young soldiers, who were part of the Danish battalion in southern Afghanistan, were killed by small arms fire while fighting Taleban insurgents in Helmand Province.
The people of Afghanistan honour the memory of the two brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the cause of peace in our country. We are also grateful to the people of Denmark for their steadfast support to Afghanistan as we rebuild our country into a stable and democratic nation.
The sacrifice offered by the Danish soldiers exemplifies the deep commitment of the Danish people to help a country in need and build a safer world. I am confident that this sacrifice of lives would further strengthen the resolve of the Danish people to continue to help Afghanistan.
Jawed Ludin
Ambassador of Afghanistan to the Nordic Countries, Oslo
