President Karzai discusses Afghanistan with Ban ki-moon

The Afghan President, Hamid Karzai, discussed the current situation in Afghanistan with the UN Secretary General, Ban ki-Moon on the sidelines of the 63rd Session of the UN General Assembly.

During the meeting, the two leaders reiterated the need for both the international community and the Afghan Government to meet the commitments to good governance and aid effectiveness reached in Paris.

"They discussed the Peace Jirga that is scheduled to take place in late October between Pakistan and Afghanistan; their mutual concern over the question of civilian casualties; and the strong support by President Karzai for the work of the Secretary-General's Special Representative, Kai Eide," said the statement attributable to the Secretary General.
