Foreign Minister Spanta meets Javier Solana

The Afghan Foreign Minister, H.E. Rangin Dadfar Spanta met today with Javier Solana, EU 1st High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy.
Mr. Solana insisted on the long-term commitments and supports of EU of Afghanistan and said, “We stand firmly on the principles of good governance, rule of law, respecting to human rights, and fighting against terrorism and narcotics which were mentioned in the Afghanistan Compact.”
He said regional cooperation is a good opportunity for Afghanistan and the region for enhancement of transfer of energy, transportation, and trade.
In this meeting, the issues related to the upcoming Paris conference, the deployment of Europol to Afghanistan, the achievements of the last six years, and the remaining challenges and the solutions came under discussion.
Both parties supported the process of afghanizing which is among the priorities of the United Nations SRSG during his mission in Afghanistan.
Dr. Spanta appreciated the crucial role of EU in their support of this process and insisted that Afghanistan will continue to back the SRSG.
“With afghanization, we would be able to strengthen our institutions and have clarity in our accountability process,” Foreign Minister Spanta said.
