Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt visits Afghanistan
Sweden's Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt, has travelled to Afghanistan for discussions on the new European focus concerning the policy for the country's development. He visited different parts of Afghanistan during his trip, including a visit to the Northern city of Mazar-Sahrif where Sweden's Provincial Reconstruction Teams are based.
Throughout his visit to Afghanistan, Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt, had separate meetings with President Hamid Karzai, Speaker of the House of the Representatives Yunus Qanuni, Minister for Foreign Affairs H.E Dr. Zalmai Rassoul and the governor of Balkh province, Muhammad Atta Noor.
During his meeting with Afghan officials the Minister for Foreign Affairs, discussed various issues of mutual interest including expanding and strengthening of bilateral relations between Sweden and Afghanistan.
In the meeting with President Hamid Karzai, discussions focused on Advisory Peace Jirga, Kabul Conference and issues of mutual interest.
Sweden's Foreign Minister acknowledged so far achievements and said Sweden will continue to assist Afghanistan in reconstruction process.
President Karzai and H.E Dr. Zalmai Rassoul, in separate occasions counted Sweden's assistance useful and hoped for further reconstruction assistance.
