Afghan team plays Norway Cup
Faryab United football team for the second year in row participated in World's largest youth football tournament Norway Cup 2010 and seizes victories in many games.
Faryab United football team with the support of Ministry of Defense of Norway and Norwegian Provincial Reconstruction Team in Faryab Province of Afghanistan, for the second year in row were able to participate in world’s largest youth football tournament Norway Cup 2010. The team Faryab United was consisted of young Afghan boys from Faryab Province of Afghanistan.
Norway Cup is the world’s largest youth football tournament. According to the organizers of Norway Cup, this year 30000 players from 54 Nations of the world in 1380 teams participated in Norway cup 2010. The tournament started on 1st August and ended on 7th August 2010.
In 2009, Faryab United was the first Afghan team that for the first time ever participated in Norway Cup football tournament. Although, Faryab United in the last year’s tournament had few victories but lost in the first round. This year the team has started off spectacularly with a lethal combination of speed, technique and with more experience then last year, which led them to several victories. In the matches within its group the team was able to win all four games of the first round and was able to win more games in the 2nd round of the football tournament as well.
Manizha Bakhtari, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Nordic countries during a dinner reception which was hosted by the Embassy of Afghanistan in Oslo in the honour of the young Afghan Football players, applaud and congratulated the players for their good games and victories.
