Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt visits Afghanistan
On Wednesday 6th of April 2011, Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt arrived in Kabul. He visits for a few days to get updated and informed on the political situation in the country. He also visits Swedish troops and travels to the eastern parts of the country.
Thursday, Bildt first met with UN’s Special Representative to Afghanistan, Swedish Staffan de Mistura, with whom he discussed the tragic incident in Mazar-e-Sharif, where the UN Office was attacked and seven people were killed, including the Swedish UN soldier Joakim Dungel.
Later, Bildt met with President Hamid Karzai. With H.E. Hamid Karzai, he discussed the political situation in Afghanistan and the demonstrations that have been going on since last Friday, in different parts of the country. They also discussed the peace process and how Sweden and the EU can continue their support in the best possible way.
Bildt will also meet with Afghan Minister of Foreign Affairs Zalmai Rassoul and the politician Ashraf Ghani. A number of UN projects and local politicians will also be visited.
