H.E. Manizha Bakhtari Afghanistan Ambassador to the Nordic countries visits Finland

On Thursday 26 April 2012, following an official invitation by H.E. Sauli Niinistö, President of Finland, Ambassador Manizha Bakhtari, left Oslo to attend the reception which was held in honor of Finland’s new President.



During her visit H.E. Manizha Bakhtari met with Ms. Heidi Hautala, Minister of International Development, MPs from Foreign Affairs Committee, Ms. Elina Kalkku, Director General of America and Asia Section at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Finland’s 1325 Steering Committee, Finland’s civil society members, and the media.

During the meetings with Finnish officials H.E. Manizha Bakhtari, thanked the Finnish people and government for their generous support to Afghanistan’s reconstruction affords. Further, H.E. Bakhtari emphasized the importance of the continuation of the Finish contribution to the stabilization and recovery of Afghanistan and elaborated on up to date political situation in Afghanistan such as security transition from foreign forces to Afghan security forces in 2014, Chicago Conference, Tokyo Conference, peace talks with the Taliban, women’s right and 1325 United Nation resolution.    

In response the Finnish officials pledged; even after the military withdrawal the cooperation between the two countries in security and reconstruction parts will continue.

In order to be entirely committed to the reconstruction of Afghanistan, Finland has doubled his financial assistance to Afghanistan and their security forces will remain in Afghanistan until the exit date is define by the International Security forces in Afghanistan.

Finland’s development projects in Afghanistan primarily focus on mine extraction, training of Afghan security forces, gender issues and role of law.  

In a separate meeting with H.E. Bakhtari the MPs from Foreign Affairs Committee express their concern over the role of women in political process, peace negotiation with Taliban, security and economy of Afghanistan after 2014.

In response H.E. Bakhtari elaborated on Process and mechanisms of peace talks with Taliban and emphasized that the values and achievements of one decade struggle and sacrifices wouldn’t be undermined in peace talks with Taliban and the Government of Afghanistan is fully committed to protect the achievement we have earned together with our international partners in past ten years.
