The fifth legislative year’s sessions inaugurates by the President of the country
The opening ceremony of the last session of the National Assembly Sessions was held on Saturday Feb 20th, 2010. In addition to the Presence of the President Karzai, other participants were the two Deputies of the President, members of the cabinet and the Supreme Court, Jehadi Leaders, Foreign Diplomats, General Stanley A. McChrystal, current Commander, International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and Commander, U.S. Forces Afghanistan, International Organizations representatives and the members of the both chambers of the National Assembly.

At the outset, H.E Mohammad Younis Qanooni, the President of the Wolesi Jirga, welcomed the distinguished guests on behalf of the Mmembers of the Wolesi Jirga and said: “I am hopeful that this coming legislative year will be a year of peace, prosperity and success for the people of Afghanistan.”
Then the Secretary of the Wolesi Jirga requested President Hamed Karzai to inaugurate the Fifth Legislative Year’s Sessions in accordance with the article 104 of the Constitution.
H.E Hamed Karzai, the President of the country during his speech said: “The considerable achievements and development of the National Assembly during the past four legislative years are: the approval of laws, and oversight on the government actions.
The President of the country called the Presidential and Provincial elections great achievement and an important occurrence during the past few months. He added despite some problems during the elections we had a great support of our people.”
The president of the country said: “We are expecting the elections of the Wolesi Jirga in near future. According to the experience that we have from the last presidential and provincial elections, we are trying to avoid repeating the problems that occurred last time.
H.E Hamed Karzai about maintaining the peace in the country said: “The leadership of the country, because of the need for peace and reconciliation with the opposition, will hold an advisory peace assembly and for this purpose we asked the King of Saudi Arabia to assist us on this issue. We are hopeful that you, the Representatives of the Nation, will see the positive results of this process.
For maintaining the security, the President of the country added: The government is attempting to maintain the security in most parts of the country as soon as possible through the national security forces. He also hoped to increase efforts to avoid civilians casualties during military operations.
At the end the President described the other government programs such as reconstruction and development processes in the country.
The ceremony ended by a prayer delivered by Subghatullah Mujadidi, the President of the Meshrano Jirga (The House of Senate).
