Certificate of Birth/Identity/Nationality application guidelines
Afghan nationals residing in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and
Iceland can apply to the Embassy of Afghanistan in Oslo for
certification of:
- Their birth in Afghanistan
- Their Afghan identity
- Their citizenship status in Afghanistan.
Applications for certification of birth, identity and nationality can
only be made in person. Applicants must produce adequate documentation
to prove their identity status and, where documentation is unavailable,
produce necessary guarantees as instructed in the guidelines below.
Checklist of requirements
All applicants applying for identity related certificates must:
- Be present through a pre-arranged interview with the Consul at the Embassy.
- Provide
two standard passport size photos. The photos must be fresh, identical
and taken directly off the face to show both ears.
- Provide documents verifying their Afghan identity, birth and nationality.
- Where documents verifying Afghan identity are unavailable, provide with them separate guarantee forms
completed and signed by two Afghan nationals of an established social
or professional background alongside identity documents and two photos
of each guarantor. Guarantee forms can be accessed in the ‘Ready to
Apply?’ section below.
- Provide documents verifying current residency status in Norway or other Nordic countries.
- Provide documents verifying current address, such as utility bills or similar documents.
- Certificate processing fee (see the fees table below).

Payment method
Certificate fees and all other consular charges are payable only in Euros. Payment in any other currency will not be accepted.
Certificate fees and all consular charges can be paid by certified bank cheque (money order) made payable to "The Embassy of Afghanistan, Oslo".
A money order (or certified bank cheque) can be obtained at any high
street bank, regardless of whether you hold an account there or not, by
paying the required amount alongside any applicable fee.
Applicants who are applying in person at the Embassy can also pay by credit/debit card upon applying.
Payments in cash, personal cheques or bank transfers are not accepted under any circumstances.
All
payments must cover the total amount that is payable to the Embassy,
including the relevant fee, bank charge and any postal cost, if
applicable. The payment must be received by the Embassy together with
your application form.
Applying for certificates
Before applying, applicants must contact the Consular Section at the Embassy
by phone or e-mail to arrange an appointment for a personal interview.
Consular opening hours are as follows:
Monday to Friday from 9am to 12 noon.
The Consular Section is closed outside these hours as well as on Saturdays and Sundays.
At appointed time, applicants must ensure to bring all the required
documents and witnesses/guarantees as required. The address is as follows:

Interviews for identity certificates are conducted by a consular officer, and can last for 30 to 60 minutes. Usually, the certificates
are issued at the end of the interview. In some cases, the applicants
will be asked to return on a specified day and time to pick up their
certificate(s). At the request of applicants, where their re-appearance
at the Embassy is not necessary, we can send their certificates and
documents by mail, in which case the applicants will be required to
present a registered, self-addressed return envelope or enclose the
necessary payment to cover postage cost.
Return of original documents
All original documents submitted as part of application will be returned to the applicant after the due process.

arrange a personal interview appointment with the Consul.
If you do not possess documents verifying your identity, birth or
nationality, please provide two guarantors with completed identity
guarantee forms. These forms can be downloaded from the left menu "Application Forms".
