Kabul:
Head of the Independent Election Committee, Azizullah Ludin, told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in an interview that this figure does not include the 12 million Afghans who were already registered at the last election. The number of registered voters before the presidential elections thus totals 16.5 million people.
According to officials in Kabul, most of the newly registered people are internally displaced people and refugees who have returned from Iran and Pakistan. The presidential election is currently scheduled to be held in August.
