President Karzai Visits London to Congratulate United Kingdom’s New Prime Minister
President Hamid Karzai met Saturday on 15 May 2010, with David Cameron, the new British Prime Minister in his country residence. Several issues including President Karzai’s successful US visit were discussed.
PM Cameron renewed his administration’s support for a stable Afghanistan and reaffirmed his country’s continued commitment for the people of Afghanistan.

The new Prime Minister said he was delighted to invite President Karzai to Chequers, the first formal visit by an international leader since the election.
President Karzai congratulated Mr. Cameron on his election as the new United Kingdom Prime Minister and thanked Britain for all the contributions it is making to Afghanistan and to its people.
Both the President and the prime minister discussed President Karzai’s very successful visit to Washington and the prospects for the peace jirga in Afghanistan at the end of May.
The two leaders agreed that the relationship between Afghanistan and Britain should be further strengthened.
The president and the prime minister expressed their admiration for the courage and the sacrifices the British forces have made in Afghanistan.
